It is a famous say that the place wherein a person commits suicide, his/her soul surrounds that area. Although there is no proof as such but in Europe this concept is famous that the person committed suicide, his dead body cannot sink into the water body and if any pregnant woman crosses over his/her grave, it will cause a miscarriage.

It is an idiom in Germany that regular swearing will cause the increase of the rats. But nobody knows why and how this happens. The people believe here that swearing is the process of calling the devils habits and is a symbol of bad luck.

Maximum people believe that sweeping out the garbage from the house is ominous. It shows that one is throwing out his luck outside of his house. It is told that the garbage should be collected in the centre of the room and then to pick it and throw out. It is also said that one should not sweep his house on New Year Day and Good Friday. In Hungary it is said that, if a thief is not caught, they try to collect the clothes of that thief and was it time and again. This act causes the thief to fall sick and he will stop stealing.

A concept is famous in Europe and America that if a person gets his tongue bitten while eating, it means that he/she might have told lie recently. But in India it is derived that it is providential and one can get the providential news or sweetmeats.

When a guest takes off from our house, we stare to his way until unless, he becomes out of sight but it is not auspicious. It indicates that neither the host nor the guest will meet again. In Germany, it is said that when a person reaches to friends or relatives house and find children there, the guest should stay there for a while and back otherwise the children may feel uneasy.

- The snitch before starting any work is ominous. If the person who has to do work snitches, it is more inauspicious.
- If, while going out snitches are forcibly suppressed, it is also ominous.
- Light snitches causes damages but the big snitch with a thunder sound is providential.
- If continuous snitches are there, it will complete the pending work.
- While going out, if snitches are heard from the right side, it will cause monetary loss. And if a man from the front side snitches, it is a chance of fight with him.
- If one is going out and on the way he snitches, it is auspicious.
- If snitches are heard from the left side, it is providential.
- The snitches from the upper floors are providential.
- While going to factory, snitches are auspicious.
- While going to bed or going for meal snitches are providential

सामान्य शकुन लकड़ी की सीडी: यह धारणा बहुत प्रचारित है कि यदि आप रस्ते से जा रहा है और सामने से कोई लकड़ी की सीडी लेकर आता हुआ आपको मिल जाये तो, आपके लिए दुर्भाग्य का द्दोतक होगा।
सामान्य शकुन धागा:
इंग्लैंड के कुछ क्षेत्रों में ऐसा विश्वास है कि धागों को जलाना दुर्भाग्य लाता है।
सामान्य शकुन आत्महत्या:
यह विश्वास आज भी सर्वप्रसिद्ध है कि जिस जगह कोई व्यक्ति आत्महत्या करता है उसकी आत्मा उसी जगह घुमती रहती है। यद्दपि इस बात का कोई भी सबूत नहीं है लेकिन यूरोप में यह धारणा प्रसिद्ध है कि जिस व्यक्ति ने आत्महत्या की हो, उसका शव पानी में डूब नहीं सकता और यदि गर्भवती स्त्री उस व्यक्ति की कब्र पर से गुजर जाये जिसने आत्महत्या की हो तो निश्चित रूप से गर्भ गिर जाता है।

जर्मनी के बहुत से ग्रामीण आज भी इस बात को मानते है कि बार-बार कसम खाने से क्षेत्र में चूहे बढ़ जाते हैं। जबकि भाषा के गलत इस्तेमाल से चूहे कैसे बढ़ते हैं, इस बात का किसी के पास कोई जवाब नहीं है। कुल मिलाकर यहां के लोग यह मानते हैं कि कसम खाना शैतानी प्रवृत्तियों को आमन्त्रित करना है और दुर्भाग्य का द्दोतक होता है।
सामान्य शकुन झाड़ू देना:
दुनिया के अधिकांश लोग यह मानते हैं कि झाड़ू देना और कूड़े को घर से बाहर निकालना दुर्भाग्यशाली होता है। क्योंकि उनके अनुसार इस तरह आप अपना अच्छा भाग्य भी बाहर फेंक सकते हैं। इसका तरीका यह बताया जाता है कि कूड़े को कमरे के सेन्टर में इकट्ठा कर लिया जाये और तब उसे उठाकर बाहर फेंका जाये। इस तरह आपके ऊपर कोई अपशकुन नहीं होगा। ये भी माना जाता है कि साल के नए दिन और ‘गुड फ्राईडे’ को झाड़ू नहीं लगानी चाहिए और ऐसा भी विश्वास है कि मई के महीने में आप घर में हरी पत्तियों की झाड़ू से सफाई करेंगे तो घर का मुखिया जल्दी ही मर जायेगा।
सामान्य शकुन चोर:
चोर के विषय में भारतीय देशों में एक धारणा यह है कि यदि चोर क्रिसमस डे को चोरी करे और पकड़ा न जाये तो वह पुरे साल चोरी करता रहेगा और पकड़ा नहीं जायेगा। हंगरी में ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जिस चोर को अधिकारी पकड़ न पाएं उसे पकड़ने का एक तरीका यह है कि किसी तरह उसके कपड़ों में से एक को प्राप्त किया जाये और उसकी खूब धुनाई की जाये, इससे वह चोर गम्भीर रूप से बिमार पड़ जायेगा और अपना क्रियाकलाप बंद कर देगा।
सामान्य शकुन जीभ:
एक धारणा के अनुसार जो यूरोप और अमेरिका में बहुत प्रसिद्ध है, यदि खाना खाते समय आपकी जीभ कट जाये तो माना जाता है कि हाल ही में आपने कोई झूठ बोला है। लेकिन भारत में इसका अलग ही अर्थ बताया जाता है। उनका मानना है कि जीभ कटना एक शुभ संकेत है और आपको कोई अच्छी खबर या मिठाई जल्दी ही प्राप्त होगी।
सामान्य शकुन मेहमान:
हम सब, जब हमारे मेहमान जाते हैं, तो उन्हें हाथ हिलाकर विदा करते हैं जब तक कि वे आंखों से ओझल न हो जाये, लेकिन एक धारणा के अनुसार माना जाता है कि यह दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण होता है। यदि दोनों में से कोई भी इसे करता है तो इसका अर्थ ये हो जाता है कि वे फिर कभी भी एक-दूसरे से नहीं मिलेंगे। जर्मनी के एक विश्वास के अनुसार यदि आप किसी घर में जायें और वहां बच्चे हों तो वहां आपको थोड़ी देर के लिए बैठ जाना चाहिए, नहीं तो आप बच्चों के मन की शांति खराब करेंगे।
सामान्य शकुन जुड़वां बच्चे:
आदिकाल से ऐसा विश्वास किया जाता है कि यदि कोई स्त्री एक ही डाली पर लगे हुए दो दो फलों को खा ले तो उसके जुड़वां बच्चे होते हैं। दक्षिणी अमेरिका में इसी धारणा का एक और स्वरूप मिलता है कि यदि कोई आदमी एक ही डाली पर लगे दो केलों को खा ले तो उसकी पत्नी को जुड़वां बच्चे होते
सामान्य शकुन नींव:
जमीन खरीदने के पश्चात् जब मकान की इमारत बनने का कार्य आरम्भ करें, उस वक्त यदि नींव खोदते वक्त काली ईंट दिखाई पड़े तो शुभ होता है। जबकि नींव की खुदाई के प्रारम्भ में यदि कोयला, हड्डी आदि निकले तो अशुभ होता है।
सामान्य शकुन विकलांग व्यक्ति:
हर इंसान को हर दूसरे इंसान के प्रति आदर करना चाहिए। अत: विकलांग व्यक्ति भी उतने ही सम्मान के अधिकारी हैं, जितने की अन्य। लेकिन प्राचीन समय में विकलांग व्यक्ति का दिखना अपशकुन ही माना जाता है।
सामान्य शकुन पंख ध्वनि:
कहीं भी जाते समय यदि पंख का स्वर सुनाई पड़े तो सर्वत्र मंगलदायक होता है। इस शकुन के मिलने पर शत्रु से मुकाबला करके भी लाभ होता है। इस शकुन के मिलने पर अधूरे एवं असंभव कार्य प्रारम्भ कर देने पर भी शीघ्र सफलता मिलती है।
सामान्य शकुन मुर्दा:
मुर्दा अर्थात् अर्थी को जाते हुए अपने लिए शकुन रूप में देखना शुभ ही पाया जाता है। घर से निकलते समय यदि प्रथम दर्शन अर्थी के हो जाएं तो अत्यन्त शुभ होता है। अर्थी का चारों दिशाओं और चारों कोणों से ही देखना उचित रहता है, परन्तु पूर्व, उत्तर और पश्चिम दिशा की तरफ ले जायी जा रही अर्थी विशेष लाभ कराती है। इस शकुन के विषय में केवल एक बात अशुभ होती है। जो लाभ में रुकावट बन जाती है। अर्थात् यदि अर्थी के साथ जाने वाले लोग रुदन न कर रहे हों। इस शकुन में रुदन लाभदायक नहीं रहता।
सामान्य शकुन लड़ाई-झगड़ा:
कहीं आवश्यक कार्य पर जाते समय यदि पड़ोस से लड़ाई-झगड़े का स्वर सुनाई पड़े तो यह अशुभ होता है। ऐसे में जाना स्थगित कर देना चाहिए।
सामान्य शकुन टोकना:
कहीं जाते समय पीछे से पूछना कि कहां जा रहे हो तो इसे अशुभ टोक कहते हैं। यह शकुन विघ्नकारी होता है।
सामान्य शकुन पैसे गिरना:
कहीं जाते समय यदि जल्दबाजी में कपड़े पहनते समय आपकी जेब से पैसे गिर जाएं तो यह अच्छा शकुन होता है। इससे धन लाभ की प्राप्ति होती है।
सामान्य शकुन छींक:
- किसी भी कार्य के प्रारम्भ में छींक को प्राय: अशुभ ही माना जाता है। यदि कार्य के आरम्भ में कार्य करने वाले को ही छींक आ जाए तो महाअशुभ होता है।
- यदि किसी कार्य हेतु जाते समय छींक आए और उसे दबा लिया जाए तो यह और भी अशुभ शकुन माना जाता है।
- हल्के स्वर की छींक हानि पहुंचाती हैं, जबकि छींक यदि ऊंचे स्वर में हो और चारों दिशाओं को बेध दे तो यह छींक का शकुन सर्वत्र जय दिलाता है।
- यदि व्यक्ति को नाक के एक ही स्वर के चलते समय, एक के बाद दूसरी छींक आ जाए तो सभी कार्य पूर्ण कराती है।
- कहीं जाते समय दायीं तरफ से छींक सुनाई दे तो धन का नुकसान होता है। जाते समय यदि सामने से ही किसी व्यक्ति को छींक आ जाए तो व्यर्थ ही झगड़े का कारण बनकर झगड़ा हो जाता है।
- लेकिन अगर कहीं जा रहे हो और रास्ते में छींक आए तो शुभ होता है।
- ऐसे ही कही जाते समय पीठ के पीछे से या बाईं तरफ से छींक का स्वर उभरे तो शुभ होता है।
- ऊंची मंजिल से भी छींक का आना शुभ माना जाता है।
- कारखाने को जाते समय की प्रत्येक छींक शुभ होती है।
- सोने के लिए जाते समय या सोते समय छींक का आना शुभ लाभ कराता है। ऐसा ही द्रव्य या खाना खाते समय छींक का आना शुभ माना जाता है।
