Nyasa Dasakam/न्यसा दशकम्

Nyasa Dasakam (न्यसा दशकम्): Nyasa Dasakam consists of 10 Sloka on prapatti. It is common practice to chant these during the daily worship in houses. Nyasa Dasakam is the prapatti done by Swami Desikan at the feet of Lord Varadaraja of Kancipuram. Thus all the Sloka are addressed by Swami Desikan from him to Bhagawan, and thus are in the form of “I surrender to you”, “I pray to you”, etc. However, the purpose for which our purvacharyas have preserved these words of Vedanta Desika and presented to us is for us to follow his example. Therefore, the meaning of the Sloka is presented here in the form of what a prapanna should observe.

The postulation “Nyasa“ is a perfect & easy system, which can be adopted by one and all. Off-course the greatness of Prapathi is conveyed by all the Alvars and Acharya and is not new one; it can be gleaned from the intuitive experiences of the Alvars and the Sastric expositions of the Acharyas.

Swami Sri Desikan has blessed us with many granthams on the doctrines of Nyasa or Prapatthi. One of the most substantive and short Stuti on the subject of nyas consists of ten verses and is known as nyas dasakam. Because of the importance of this work as the distilled essence of the principles of Nyasa and the method of performance of Nyasa, Sri Vaishnavas recite Nyasa dasakam at their homes during their daily Thiruvar Adhanam for Sriman Narayan.

Having thus been blessed by the Lord to do Nyasa at His feet by following the five angas of prapatti, the prapanna has surrendered the responsibility for his protection completely to the Lord. The prapanna then devotes the rest of his life in the bliss of kainkaryam to Him and derives the joy of Sri Vaikuntha in this world itself. At the end of this life, it is Bhagavan who ensures that the prapanna who has thus surrendered himself to His care and protection, is indeed united with Him in Sri Vaikuntha, and is relieved of the cycle of samsara.

अहं मद्रक्षणभरो मद्रक्षणफलं तथा ।

न मम श्रीपतेरेवेत्यात्मानं निक्षिपेद् बुध: ।।1।।

न्यस्याम्यकिनचन: श्रीमन्ननुकूलोऽन्यवर्जित: ।

विश्वासप्रार्थनापूर्वमात्मरक्षाभरं त्वयि ।।2।।

स्वामी स्वशेषं स्ववशं स्वभरत्वेन निर्भरम् ।

स्वदत्तस्वधिया स्वार्थ स्वस्मिन्नयस्यति मां स्वयम् ।।3।।

श्रीमन्नभीष्टवरद त्वामस्मि शरणं गत: ।

ऐतद्देहावसाने मां त्वत्पादं प्रापय स्वयम् ।।4।।

त्वच्छेषत्वे स्थिरधियं त्वत्प्राप्त्येकप्रयोजनम् ।

निषिद्धकाम्यरहितं कुरु मां नित्यकिंकरम् ।।5।।

देवीभूषणहेत्यादिजुष्टस्य भगवंस्तव ।

नित्यं निरपराधेषु कैंकर्येषु नियुंगक्ष्व माम् ।।6।।

मां मदीयं च निखिलं चेतनाचेतनात्मकम् ।

स्वकैकंर्योपकरणं वरद स्वीकुरु स्वयम् ।।7।।

त्वमेव रक्षकोऽसि मे त्वमेव करुणाकर: ।

न प्रवर्तय पापानि प्रवृत्तानि निवारय ।।8।।

अक्रत्यानां च करणं कृत्यानां वर्जनं च मे ।

क्षमस्व निखिलं देव प्रणतार्तिहर प्रभो ।।9।।

श्रीमन्नियतपंचांग मद्रक्षणभरार्पणम् ।

अचीकरत्स्वयं स्वस्मिन्नतोऽहमिह निर्भर: ।।10।।
