Dev Keralam Book: After publishing Essentials of Predictive Hindu Astrology last year, I am happy to present to my readers the book of Dev Keralam with English translation, notes, etc. Some people have heard the name of this work, Dev Keralam. Few people have seen the Sanskrit manuscript. Nevertheless, almost every student of astrology has been seeking an English translation of this work for decades. And, now, there is an opportunity for all of us to enjoy the instructions of Achyuth, the author of Dev Keralam book.

As the name suggests, this work is from Kerala, located in the southern part of India. Kerala is a treasure trove of original astrological manuscripts like Jataka Desha Marga, Krishnayam, and Prashna Marga. Every work of Kerala is a great work in itself. Dev Keralam has more than 8200 verses in total. Its author Achyuta unfortunately did not leave any clue about his lineage, place of origin, time, etc. Lack of such information does not adversely affect the greatness of the work. Although the name suggests that it is from Kerala.

The author was an expert in astrology and had expertise in various Nadi texts. He specialized in the use of Nadiamsa in addition to employing Parasarian principles. In compiling the present work, he had consulted several Nadi texts including Surya Nadi, Chandra Nadi, Kuja Nadi, Budha Nadi, Guru Nadi, Shukra Nadi, Shani Nadi, Lagna Nadi, Lagnadhipati Nadi, Sarva Nadi and Yoga Nadi. He also quoted Graha, Vashishtha, Parashara, Yavana etc. As far as, I know, these Nadis are not available in any form nowadays.
