Zero To One Book (जीरो टू वन पुस्तक): Zero to One is about how to build companies that can create new things. It’s all based on the experiences the author had as a co-founder of PayPal and Palantir, and then as an investor in hundreds of start-ups, including Facebook and SpaceX. Although he has presented many examples here, this book does not provide a formula for success.
The paradox of teaching entrepreneurship is that no such formula can exist; because every discovery is new and unique. No one can teach with full authority how to become an innovator. The single most powerful pattern I’ve seen is that successful people find value in unexpected places, and they do this by thinking about business with rules rather than formulas.
Some excerpts from the book:
Every moment in business comes only once. The next Bill Gates won’t create an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t create a search engine. In the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network. If you’re copying these people, you’re not learning from them.
Of course, it is much easier to copy a model than to create something new. By doing what we already know, the world goes from one to infinity (n), that is, we contribute a little to what is already known, but every time we create something new. Going from zero to one.
The act of creating something is unique, as is the moment of creation and its results are always fresh and strange. Unless American companies do the hard work of investing in new things, they will continue to fail in the future, no matter how high their profits are today.
What happens when we’ve gotten everything we can from the legacy businesses we’ve inherited? This answer is as scary as it sounds. Much worse than the 2008 crisis. The current ‘best practices’ lead to dead ends. The best path is the one that is new and no one has tried it.
In a world of giant private and public administrative bureaucracies, exploring any new path can seem like hoping for a miracle. In fact, if American businesses are going to succeed, we will need hundreds, if not thousands, of miracles. Disappointing as it may be, one fact is very important: humans are different from other species by their ability. That is to produce miracles. We call these miracles technology.
