Batukbhairavarchan Paddhti Book Description:
According to Shiva Purana, Batuk Bhairav is a group of gods who are worshipped before the commencement of the worship of Lord Shiva. The gods were originally the sons of a great Brahmin devotee of Shiva. The Brahmin with his sincere worship had highly satisfied Shiva and He granted godly status to the sons of the Brahmin. Shiva then granted a boon that anyone who wanted to worship Him would have to first worship the sons of the Brahmin. These sons of the Brahmin came to be known as “Batuk Bhairav”. Literally the first word ‘Batuk’ means ‘he who is the son of a Brahmin’.- Batukbhairavarchan Paddhti Book.
The origin of Batuk Bhairav is mentioned in the Kali Khand chapter of the Shakti Sangam Tantra an ancient text. As per the scripture, there was once a demon named Aapad, he gained a boon from Lord Brahma. The demon misused his powers to harass every living being in all the three worlds. Tired and tensed due to the destruction caused by the demon, all the Gods went to Kailash to seek help of Lord Shiva. Upon hearing the misdeeds of the demon Lord Shiva got furious and created an eternal fire body from His third eye. The other Gods too concentrated and combined their power into that eternal flame. This eternal flame took the form of a five year boy who according to the scriptures was the living embodiment of time and space. This child was named as Batuk Bhairav by Lord Shiva Himself.- Batukbhairavarchan Paddhti Book.
