यद्यपि तन्त्र शब्द के अनेक अर्थ हैं जो शास्त्र पुराण इतिहास आदि में स्पष्ट विदित होते हैं परन्तु ‘तन्त्र’ शब्द सुनते की बुद्धि में श्रीशिवशिवासंवाद रूप तन्त्र शास्त्र का बोध होने लगता है। यह ‘गौरीकान्चलिकातन्त्र’ शिवशिवासंवाद होने पर भी उससे कुछ विलक्षण है। इसमें श्रीभवानीजी ने शंकर परमात्मा से लोकोपकार की बुद्धि से मनुष्यों को रोग, शोक और मृत्यु के भय से बचाने के लिए प्रश्न किया है, उसके उत्तर में श्रीशंकरजी ने ज्वरादि रोगों पर नाना प्रकार के कल्प कहे हैं, यद्दपि कन्द, मूल, वनस्पति आदियों में नाना प्रकार की शक्ति स्वत: सिद्ध है और उनके प्रयोग से गुण भी होता है, परन्तु तिथि, नक्षत्र, वार, ऋतु इत्यादि के नियम से, क्रिया से उनमें विशेष बल आ जाता है। – Gaurikanchalika Tantra Book
