Lord Ashutosh heard this argument of Parvati and remained silent. He did not have a satisfactory answer. After a few moments, he said, okay sati! There should be a simpler form of these mantras. एक पौराणिक कथा है कि एक बार भगवान शंकर माता पार्वती के साथ भ्रमण के उद्देश्य से पृथ्वी पर आये। भ्रमण के मध्य वह दोनों एक घोर भयानक निर्जन प्रदेश में आये। वहां देखा कि एक तपस्वी गुफा के भीतर मन्त्र साधना में रत है और एक मन्त्र का बराबर जाप कर रहा है। उसका मन्त्र जाप सुनकर भगवान अवधूत चौंक पड़े और करुणा भरी नजर से माता पार्वती की ओर देखा फिर बोले, सती ! यह एकदम अशुद्ध उच्चारण कर रहा है, फलस्वरूप इसका शुभ फल तो मिलेगा नहीं, उल्टे मृत्यु को प्राप्त करेगा। कोमल ह्रदय पार्वती आखिर जगत की माता है वह बोली, नाथ ! इस मन्त्र शक्ति के जन्मदाता तो आप ही है। आपने मन्त्र के उच्चारण और भाषा को इतना क्लिष्ट क्यों बना दिया? अगर यह मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुआ, तो इसका दोष आपको लगेगा। भगवान आशुतोष पार्वती का यह तर्क सुनकर मौन रह गये। उनके पास इसका कोई संतोषजनक उत्तर नहीं था। कुछ क्षण बाद बोले, तुम ठीक ही कहती हो सती! इन मन्त्रों का सरल रूप भी होना चाहिए? अच्छा मैं कुछ उपाय करता हूँ? – Gorakh Tantra Book.

भगवान शिव अघोरी का वेष धरके उसके पास गये। उसे अशुद्ध उच्चारण करने से रोका और सरल मन्त्र बताया। इस प्रकार भोलेनाथ ने सम्पूर्ण मन्त्र शक्ति का सरलीकरण करके उसे दे दिया। कालान्तर में वह तपस्वी ‘सिद्ध’ अथवा ‘नाथ’ कहलाया। नाथ सम्प्रदाय का वह पहला ‘नाथ’ था। तब से इस पन्थ में नौ नाथों का एवं चौरासी अन्य नाथों का विवरण मिलता है। नाथ पंथियों के द्वारा भगवान रूद्र द्वारा उच्चारित मन्त्र अपना लिए गये। उन मन्त्रों को ‘शाबर मन्त्र’ के रूप में पहचाना गया। कुछ लोग इन्हें कनफटे जोगी के रूप में भी जानते है। क्लिष्ट संस्कृत के स्थान पर साधारण बोल चाल की भाषा में मन्त्र बना दिए, जिनका जाप कर सामान्य व्यक्ति भी अपना मनोरथ सिद्ध कर सकता है। – Gorakh Tantra Book.
