Goraksh Paddhati Book
Goraksh Paddhati Book (गोरक्ष पद्धति पुस्तक): The essence of all practices is yoga. There are various paths to liberation, such as austerity, chanting, renunciation, and knowledge of the Upanishads; however, the supreme yoga is the most important. By its influence, Shiva is all-powerful, Brahma is the creator, and Vishnu is the protector. The main contributor, Lord Shiva, told Parvati that the story of Brahma gave rise to the yogic knowledge of Yajnavalkya.
Vishnu (Lord Krishna) stated in the eleventh book of the Bhagavata and the Gita that its principal teacher is Adinatha (Shiva). From him, the Nath tradition was established. Once, Adinatha was imparting yoga to Parvati on an island, and a fish heard and attained divine knowledge and a divine body; this fish became known as Matsyendranath. Matsyendranath, having obtained yoga from Shavarnath, Anand Bhairav Nath, Chaurangi, and others, roamed as he pleased.
One day, he saw a thief whose hands and feet had been cut off. By the kind grace of those great souls, the thief’s hands and feet grew back, and he also attained knowledge. Through the grace of Matsyendranath, the yogi known as Chaurangiya became accomplished in yoga. For the benefit of those seeking liberation, Gorakshanath understood the extensive and deep practice of yoga. Raj Yoga, Hatha Yoga, etc., presented the essence of it all in a text of 200 verses called “Goraksha-Paddhati”.
