हर एक जीव अपनी नाक की छिद्रों के द्वारा साँस ग्रहण करता तथा उसका विसर्जन करता है। इसी सांस के द्वारा प्रत्येक जीव के प्राण स्थिर होते है दुसरे शब्दों में कहा जाये तो यही सांस प्रत्येक जीव का प्राण है। सांस प्रत्येक जीवन का प्राण है। सांस क्रिया बंध हो जाने, पर व्यक्ति को मृत घोषित कर दिया जाता है। अतः समझा जा सकता है की प्रत्येक जीव के लिए सांस लेने की क्रिया अत्यंत आवश्यक क्रिया है और जीवन का ठहराव इसी के बलबूते पर होता है।
