Nandi Puja Bell/Brass Puja Bell (नन्दी पूजा घन्टी): The word Nandi comes from the Tamil root word, Nandu, meaning to grow, flourish or appear, which was used to refer to the growth or flowering of white bulls, as well as the divine bull Nandi. The Sanskrit word Nandi has the meaning of happiness, joy and satisfaction, qualities of the divine guardian Shiva-Nandi. Almost all Shiva temples depict stone images of a seated Nandi, generally facing the main shrine.
Apart from temples, Nandi (Nandi Puja Bell) one can also find in various Hindu Puranas and sacred Hindu texts. One of my favorite stories revolving around Nandi takes us back to the dice game between Shiva and Parvati. Parvati won the game, but after a disagreement, Nandi had to intervene. He surprisingly declared Shiva the winner. This unjust judgment enraged Parvati and she cursed him to suffer from a fatal disease. (Brass Puja Bell)
Nandi Puja Bell Description:
According to the scriptures, Nandi is the son of the sage Shilada. Shilada underwent severe penance to obtain the boon of a child with immortality and the blessings of Lord Shiva and adopted Nandi as his son. It is a say that Nandi took birth from a Yajna performed by Shilada. Surprisingly, his body was with the armor of diamonds when he took birth. This Nandi Brass Bell grew up as an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and did penance to become his gatekeeper as well as his horse on the banks of the Narmada River, near the Tripur Tirth Kshetra in the present day Nandikeshwar Temple, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Nandi Puja Bell Benefits:
Nandi is the vehicle of His Master, Lord Shiva, and His primary devotee. He honors his Master and adores Him. His appearance is full of charm and His demeanor is authoritative. Oh well, He is God Himself! As a security guard, he guards the entrance gate to the abode of Shiva’s devotees, who always seek His blessings before approaching Shiva. The worship of Shiva and Nandi is since the time of the Indus Valley Civilization. The famous “Pashupati Seal” depicts a seated figure usually identified as Shiva. Many bull seals we found at Mohenjo Daro and Harappa. Leading researchers concluded that Nandi worship is a long-standing tradition for many thousands of years.
