Shaligram/Shaligram Stone (शालिग्राम): It is a black stone. It was because of the curse that Lord Vishnu turned into stone. The curse is so powerful that even the most powerful God, one of the trinity, could do nothing but accept it. Lord Vishnu accepted this curse from one of his most loyal devotees, Vrinda. Shaligrams are typically ammonite shell fossils from the Devonian and Cretaceous periods between 400 and 66 million years ago.
