शकुन अपशकुन संगीत: अमरीकी व भारतीयों में यह माना जाता है कि यदि आप यह कल्पना कर सकते हैं कि आप संगीत सुन रहे हैं, बिना किसी संगीत के कार्यक्रम के तो यह मानना चाहिए कि आपके अन्दर किसी उदार आत्मा का निवास है।अफ्रीकी कबीले में भी विश्वास करते हैं कि यदि किसी व्यक्ति को विषैली मकड़ी काट ले तो वह सुखद संगीत सुनकर ठीक हो सकता है।

संगीतकारों में सामान्य तौर पर यह विश्वास किया जाता है। कि यदि कोई संगीतकार रियाज कर रहा हो और उसे बीच में बाधा पहुंचा दी जाये तो उसके लिए यह अपशकुन होता है। जाहिर है उसे संगीत का कोई दूसरा टुकड़ा रियाज के लिए उठाना पड़ता है और उसे वापस पहले टुकड़े पर पहुंचने में देर लगती है।

तुर्की लोगों में सूंडी को लेकर एक अजीब सी धारणा है। कि उनका कहना थूक दिया लेकिन अल्लाह ने जल्दी से मांस के उस टुकड़े को काट दिया, जिससे कि शरीर में अपवित्रता न फैले और इस तरह सूंडी का अस्तित्व बना।

दुखस्वप्न को यहाँ बताना युक्ति संगत नहीं है, लेकिन एक मजेदार धारणा ऐसी है जो इस विषय को भी इस दायरे में ले आता है। माना जाता है कि यदि किसी को रात में दुस्वप्न आते हों तो उसके पलंग के एक किनारे जुराबों को पिन से लटका देना चाहिए। यार्कशायर में एक लोकगीत में कहा गया है कि कोयले पर भी जुराबों को रखने से दुस्वप्नों से मुक्ति मिल सकती है। दुस्वप्न के विषय में यह माना जाता है कि वह तभी आता है जब सोए हुए व्यक्ति पर किसी विशाल प्रेत आत्मा का प्रभाव हो जाये। यूरोप में इनको रोकने का एक तरीका यह बताया जाता है कि बिस्तर के एक किनारे यदि चाकू रख दिया जाये तो दुस्वप्नों से छुटकारा मिल जाता है, क्योंकि अंधकार के वाहक लोहे और स्टील से डरते है ।

अमेरिका के पूर्वी समुद्र के किनारे के क्षेत्रों में माना जाता है यदि आप अपनी जेब में या बटुए में एक शंखिनी का टुकड़ा रखते हैं, तो आपके लिए भाग्यशाली सिद्ध होगा और ऐसा भी माना जाता है कि यदि 5 अगस्त को कोई घोंघे को खाता है तो वह कभी भूखा नहीं रहता।

ग़ाव में मालपुआ का दिन दरअसल मंगलवार होता है। पहले तो मंगल के दिन मालपुआ खाने के विषय में अनेक धारणायें थी, पर आज ब्रिटेन में व्यापक रूप से यह माना जाता है कि इस दिन मालपुआ खाना साल भर के लिए अच्छे भाग्य का संकेत होता है। ऐसा करने से आपको न खाने की कमी रहेगी न पैसे की। इस प्रथा के साथ यह नियम भी जुड़ा हुआ है कि मालपुए को रात के आठ बजे से पहले खाना चाहिए, नहीं तो इसका असर उल्टा भी हो सकता है।
ये प्रथा सदियों पुरानी है और इस उत्सव पर यह भी माना जाता है कि जो व्यक्ति इस दिन अपने पापों को स्वीकार करता है, वह उनके प्रभाव से मुक्त हो जाता है। लेकिन दुर्भाग्य से इस दिन के साथ कुछ निर्मम प्रथाएं भी जुड़ी हुई हैं, जैसे वेश्याओं का अपने घरों से बाहर निकालना और उन पर मरे हुए मुर्गे फेंकना। लेकिन अब अधिकारियों ने इन प्रथाओं को बन्द कर दिया है।
शकुन अपशकुन बिच्छू-बूटी:
यदि किसी मुश्किल समस्या को हल करना हो तो कहा जाता है कि इसे बिच्छू बूटी की तरह जकड़ लेना चाहिए। यह मुहावरा इस धारणा का कारण बना है कि यदि कोई बिमार हो और उसका कोई रिश्तेदार बिच्छू-बूटी को पकड़ कर लाये और पकड़ते समय बिमार आदमी का नाम दोहराए तो बिमार ठीक हो जाता है। ऐसा भी माना जाता रहा है कि यदि बिच्छू बूटी का एक टुकड़ा जेब में हो तो आप पर बिजली नहीं गिर सकती।
शकुन अपशकुन मांग निकालना:
यदि कोई स्त्री दूसरे स्थान पर मांग निकाले जहां स्वाभाविक रूप से मांग नहीं निकाली जाती तो यूरोप के धारणा के अनुसार वह शीघ्र ही विधवा हो जायेगी।
शकुन अपशकुन गर्म सलाख:
बहुत से देशों में यह माना जाता है कि गर्म सलाख और संडासी को भट्टी के पास इकट्ठा नहीं न रखना चाहिए, नहीं तो पति और पत्नी में झगड़ा हो जाता है। यह भी एक पुराना विश्वास है कि जो आग सुलग न रही हो तो लोहे की सलाख को जाली के समाने कैंची बनाते हुए सीधा खड़ा कर देना चाहिए और यदि सलाख को आग में डाल दिया जाये और तब इसे जाली के सामने खड़ा कर दिया जाये तो चिमनी में से हवा खिंचकर आयेगी और आग को सुलगा देगी।
शकुन अपशकुन पोट्रेट:
दर्पण के विषय में धारणा प्रचलित हैं उसी तरह यदि किसी व्यक्ति का पोट्रेट या तस्वीर अलमारी से गिर जाये या वह दीवार से लटकी हो और बिना किसी कारण के गिर कर टूट जाये तो यह माना जायेगा कि वह व्यक्ति जल्दी ही मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जायेगा। हालैंड के लोग मानते हैं कि यदि किसी व्यक्ति की प्रेमिका की तस्वीर कार के डैश बोर्ड से टकरा जाये तो उसका ड्राईवर किसी बड़ी दुर्घटना से बच जायेगा।

यद्दपि समुद्र से संबंधित सभी धारणा और शकुन अलग-अलग है, लेकिन सम्पूर्ण समुद्र से संबंधित धारणा यह भी है, कि यदि जमीन पर खड़े होकर समुद्र की आवाज पश्चिम से आती सुनाई दे तो समझना चाहिए कि मौसम अच्छा रहेगा और अगले कुछ दिनों तक शान्ति रहेगी। समुद्र पर उड़ने वाले समुद्री पंछी अशुभ माने जाते हैं। ऐसा विश्वास किया जाता है कि ये दरअसल मरे हुए नाविकों की आत्माएं हैं। यदि तीन समुद्री पक्षी सिर के ऊपर से गुट बनाकर उड़ते दिखाई दें तो मानना चाहिए कि ये मृत्यु का संकेत है। यदि एक समुद्री पक्षी मकान की खिड़की पर उड़ता हुआ आए तो मानना चाहिए कि परिवार का जो सदस्य समुद्र की तरफ गया है, उसका जीवन खतरे में है।
ऐसा भी माना जाता है कि ये समुद्री पक्षी समुद्र के दायरे को छोड़कर मैदान पर उड़ते हुए दिखाई दें तो समुद्र पर खराब मौसम का आंतक होगा। समुद्री तूफान की पक्षी संबंधी भविष्यवाणी में ‘एलबेक्ट्रोस’ शुभ मानी जाती है, लेकिन इसका दिखना जबरदस्त हवाओं का संकेत होता है। लेकिन यदि कोई नाविक इसे मार दे तो यह नाविकों के लिए अत्यन्त अशुभ सिद्ध होती है। अनेक देशों के नाविक इसे मौसम का बैरोमीटर मानते हैं। यदि इनका एक समूह समुद्र पर दिखाई दे तो मानना चाहिए कि भयानक तूफान आ रहा है, पर यदि तूफान के समय में आती हुई दिखाई दें तो मानना चाहिए कि तूफान का अंत होने वाला है।
